Writing Has Potential to Heal

Kerry Hudson, a U.K. writer, believes that writing can be a very cathartic process, and that one should continue to write even if he or she doesn’t show it to anyone else.

“I’m very interested in how writing about one’s own life has the ability and potential to heal,” she said in a recent interview with The Korea Times.

“I am aware that there is a lot of interest in the themes of healing and redemption in Korea. Many have been quite interested in how writing about my own life has changed my life,” she added.

Hudson, who is in Korea doing research for her next book, said that writing about one’s own life gives him or her a perspective on it.

“After writing about my own life, I know that I’ve moved beyond the questions about the adult I have become and how my childhood has shaped that,” she said. “It changed the way I live because wherever I am ― even if I’m just walking to the grocery store ― I know that there’s potentially a story there.”

She explained that as a result, she is now more engaged with the world and alert to everything that is happening around her. Her life has become more energetic.

“Also, part of the healing is that I was given the chance to come to Korea and meet new people,” she added.
