Daydreaming Contest Catches Eyes

If you walked by Seoul Plaza on Monday, you may have come across an unusual sight: some 50 people sitting still in the middle of the city, staring into space.

No, it was not a group meditation or a silent protest.

Rather, the people on the plaza were competing to determine the "best daydreamer" among them

The Space-Out Festival, streamed on the Internet, was organized in a bid to highlight the value of doing nothing in an age that seems to endlessly promote always doing something.

A nine-year-old girl surnamed Kim won the contest and was awarded with a small statue of Rodin's "The Thinker" as a trophy, reports said.

All participants were awarded with participation certificates after the contest.

The winner was determined by measuring the heart rates of the participants, as well as the number of "best dreamer" stickers stuck on each person by passersby.

Sleeping and using smart devices were banned. Some participants were disqualified and got "dragged out" by event coordinators dressed up as the Grim Reaper -- for moving too much.
